Dear friends and fellow walkers,

Come to join us for the 2018 Surrey Munro by an exploratory route. Past years have shown this trek to be about 12miles with just over 3000 feet of ascent; in fact the same as a Scottish Munro.

This year, to prepare us, we will meet in the Denbies conservatory restaurant at 0930 for a hearty breakfast (Postcode: RH5 6AA) Map: TQ165512

The walk will begin at 1030 sharp from Denbies and will cover White Hill, Juniper Top, Box Hill and more. Bring a packed lunch. After the walk tea and cake will be served at our house, followed by supper (please let us know if you will be staying for supper).

Starting Point

Alternatively it is a short walk from Boxhill and Westhumble station, or the National Trust Stepping Stones car park.

“The Downs and Weald”
Why do one when, with a bit of extra effort, you can do both? For our ‘end of summer challenge’ this year we will walk through some of the best countryside that Surrey has to offer, taking in parts of The Weald, The Greensand Ridge and the North Downs. Don’t be put off by the mileage. Although the terrain will be fairly hilly we won’t be contriving to do quite as much as ascent as with previous challenges. In terms of total effort, I’ll aim to make this walk no more difficult than previous challenges. So, do join me to enjoy the final ‘light(ish) evening’ and the early autumn colours.

Starting Point
Meet at the Friday Street car park (TQ125458)
Please bring a torch just in case; it’s a little dark as we walk the final stretch through the trees.

Lunch
Please bring a packed lunch and plenty of water for the day.

Afterwards
As is the usual custom, we will enjoy a pub meal after the walk – details of which will be posted nearer the time.

Walliswood
A circular walk from Walliswood, first visiting St John the Baptist church at Oakwood, dating from 1220, but it is thought to have been a Christian site prior to that. Mid-morning coffee break at Ockley, then onto Forest Green for lunch. The afternoon section of the walk follows an anticlockwise route across fields and through woods back to Walliswood.

Stating point
The start is at Walliswood village car park. Grid ref TQ118381 post code RH5 5RG. There are no public transport options to the start of the walk, but a lift may be possible from either Guildford or Dorking railway stations.

Please note that Thames Water is planning on closing Walliswood Green Road (with diversions in place), which is just to the south of our meeting point. This will be a problem for anyone travelling to the start of the walk from the south.

Lunch
Please bring a packed lunch. Unfortunately the Parrot pub in Forest Green is currently closed for refurbishment, but the farm shop next door is open and sells pies, pastries and hot and cold drinks. They also have tables outside (and a WC) for customers only; otherwise a picnic lunch on the village green.
